How where you introduced into refereeing?
After finishing playing football for the school team, I didn’t think I was good enough to make it to a higher level. I therefore chose to referee, where I did my course at Ryhope Cricket Wlub with Dave Binsley.

What has been the highlight of your career so far and why?
Promotion to the national list has been my overall highlight; it was my main target when I started so that was very special.

What is the biggest game you have officiated and why?
Whitby Town Vs Matlock Town Unibond Premier League, whoever lost were relegated, it finished 3-3 both stayed up!!
4th official Conference Play-off Final at Wembley for obvious reasons.

What are your aims and ambitions as a referee?
My main ambition was to reach the national list of referees. I may have to review after the next couple of seasons, if I don’t get kicked off.

What/Who has been the biggest influence on your career and why?
Loads of people, Malcolm Langley for telling me to ditch my Sunderland Season ticket, my mentors Dick Madden and Ron Bates. My referee coaches Phil Prosser, Matt Matthias and Alan Kaye. Also Russ Tiffin has offered great advice, and Dave ‘the rave’ Morton ha ha !!!

In your opinion who is / was the best referee?
Tyson & Courtney were a bit before my time, recent days Paul Durkin (class act). The best one I have worked with is Michael Oliver or the next World Cup Final Referee!!!
